So far the best printer I had January 4, 2009 I brought this printer from Frys electronics on a sale $89. I did had some glitches with setting up the printer ink cartridges and once I figured it out, then on wards it was very easy to setup the printer. I have tested some of the 4"X6" photos of my daughter's birthday party and it was very good. I never got any of this printer's picture qualities before from any of my previous printers. I previously owned an HP printer and it totally useless and was looking for some deals on printers and found this printer. After reading some reviews in Amazon I decided to buy it.
I configured this printer using wireless network configuration and it was very smooth. I was expecting some issues after reading some negative comments about setting up the wireless network configuration with this printer in Amzon. Anyways my systems are on a Windows Vista OS and if you have proper configuration details of your wireless router it is pretty easy to setup.
10 points for the picture print quality 8 points for setup and total time taken to configure is less than 45 mts.
Thank you
Very complicated setup January 1, 2009 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have never had a printer that was more complicated to set up. The 70 page "quick start" guide was confusing and unhelpful. Trying to use the Canon utility to set up wireless printing on a Mac was a nightmare. There are a number of positive reviews of the quality of the printing, etc - that is true, but brace yourself for a horrible setup experience and hope you never lose the manual if you ever want to change any of the settings down the road.
Easy Peasy and fully Functional December 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I needed a printer that was capable of WiFi connection. My desk top and router is upstairs and my laptop downstairs. We are in our early 70s and running up and down stairs was becoming difficult. Taking my time and following instructions, I had the printer coonected via wireless to the laptop and USB cable to desk top within an hour. Prints text and photos in high quality. Only draws 3.7 watts at idle and has sleek styling. High Five, Canon!
Highly Recommended - Review: Unboxing to Printing December 27, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After reading many reviews and looking at the build quality of several printers, I chose to but the Canon Pixma MP620 as a replacement for another Canon printer in our home: A Canon i950. We were always pleased with the i950, but were looking for a few things in particular in our new printer. Namely:
- Comparable or better photo printing - Comparable or better document printing - Ability to scan, print and copy - Wireless access
From receiving the product:
I ordered the product from Amazon and it was packed well by Amazon; even better by Canon. Anything that could possible move or jar during shipping was taped down. The tape that was used was easy to remove and unpacking was not frustrating. I appreciated the care that was taken to ensure the product wouldn't arrive misaligned or damaged.
After unpacking the box, the first thing to do is setup the ink cartridges. The MP620 was easy to setup and the cartridges holder and the cartridges themselves all seat with a confident click. Setting up the ink took about five minutes, and then calibrating the print head took another 10 minutes or so.
Next was getting the printer onto our home network so we could print wirelessly. This was easier than I expected. Canon provides a step-by-step guide for Windows and Macintosh computers. My home computers are primarily Macintoshes, which occasionally suffer from a sub-par installation experience of mass market peripherals. Not so in this case. The instructions for both the PC and Mac were clear and setup was straightforward. I'm technically inclined, but I don't think that played into it much as the directions were very clear.
It took about 15 or 20 minutes to install the drivers/software, get the printer onto our home network, and print off a few test prints. This included giving wireless access to another computer in our home.
Both the B&W and color printing onto paper is about what I expected from Canon (very good). Photo printing was excellent. Our initial prints weren't from a computer.
The printer allows you to place a memory card from a camera straight into the printer, review/select a picture or pictures from the card using the LCD screen, and print the picture(s). We selected a few images with people in them (skin tones are generally more difficult for a camera/printer to get right) and ripped off a few prints. Print time was very respectable/fast. Print quality was excellent. Photo prints literally looked like what you'd get if you dropped a roll of film off to be processed.
I'm unsure if it matters, but I did want to note that the pictures we printed were taken on a Canon camera - A PowerShot 750. This might not make a difference, but it is altogether possible that best results are in a Canon camera to Canon printer scenario (I'd suspect this to be the case for any same-brand camera to same-brand printer comparison).
The only concern I have about the product is the plain paper tray. It doesn't seem to have the same build quality as the rest of the printer, but it also doesn't seem to have many points of failure, so it will likely be fine.
All in all, I highly recommend this product.
MP620 December 26, 2008 The printer uses somewhat smaller ink cartridges than the MP600 which we also own. The wireless set up was not worth the hassle thus the printer is hardwired with a USB cable. It has performed well over the several months we have had it.
