Product Description
Introducing the P182, the newest edition in Antec's continually improving Performance One design. More innovations have been built in, such as an external fan control for the top and rear fans, a special gunmetal black finish, cable organizers and even ports with rubber grommets for externally mounted liquid-cooling radiators. All of these improvements build upon the great features of the original P180: the triple layer side panels and door design, and the upper and lower chamber structure to isolate power supply heat from the rest of your components. The P182 truly is the new standard by which all other performance cases will be measured.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty nice.   January 2, 2009
I think this case is pretty good with the noise defening panels and the dual chambers. Case is nice and heavy, not like those cheap ones where everything is bendable and gives you cuts. The case is very sturdy, nice finish. Looks great. The slide in bays makes it so much easier. The 2 filters in the front are great. Cleaning them is a breeze.

There are two circles on the back for water cooling, i think thats a great option. And the little silicon or rubber things on the hard drive thing are great, takes away vibration sounds. The dual chambers also help seperate the heat.

One of the Antec Tricool fans (rear fan)stopped working well after a few months. Had this computer running for at least 8 - 10 hours a day. The fan rumbles/vibrates and makes an annoying sound with the case. Something is jamming it from turning and moves very slow if not at all. Replaced it with a spare blue led 120mm fan.

Another Antec Tricool fan (top fan) is starting to have some problems too. When the computer starts up, it makes a loud noise, but eventually goes away.

I covered the vents (the little holes in the expansion slots and the two holes for water cooling) in the back with either tape or cut out post-its to stick on because I didnt want exhaust air to be sucked back into the computer.

Dust still gets inside the computer, I use a vaccum to clean it every 6-10 months or so, but my house or my room is pretty dusty.

I have five 120 fans in total, 3 antec tricool fans on high (not including my cpu fan). It gets pretty loud. Wish they would add something that would make the fans quieter.

This case is quite big, but thats not much of a problem for me. It may be for some people though. (short psu wires, or too small of a desk)

When I bought this, it was actually the Antec p180b version, but at that time, the p182 version was getting shipped out. So I belive i got the p182, I dont think there were any differences at that time. I don't know if they've made any changes to the p182 again so... yea... Got this thing from Fry's with a rebate. I think it was 60 dollars after the rebate or so (forgot price). I wish the the fan was bigger like the one on the p190, I think its 200mm?

I gave this thing 4 stars because 2 of 3 the tricool fans didnt work well.

5 out of 5 stars A Massive, Quiet, Case   December 31, 2008
This is one great computer case. It is a monster, very large. It is heavy. But darn, it is one quiet cool case.

The exterior - the gunmetal finish is really classic, simple and beautiful. The case looks almost like the monolith from 2001 a Space Odessy. The front door does swing all the way around to be flush with the side of the case. There's a nice firm magnetic catch. The fan outlet on the top is not bad, doesn't really get in the way. The top deck is flat. There are two air filters behind the front door. There's tons of USB ports on this beast.

The interior - no sharp edges anywhere. Everything has a really good finish to it, solidly built. The case sides are very easy to remove AND replace. I happen to really like the plastic rails for attaching the sides. There's been a lot written about the placement of the power supply. Yeah, it's strange, bottom seperate space. And the power supply cables were sometimes tough to put in because they had to stretch a long ways. There are two hard drive cages, easy to remove. The three internal fans should all be set to low.

The build - Antec green power 500W power supply - the 8 pin 12V ATX wire had to loop over the top, making for a not so pretty install. The motherboard cable ran beautifully under the mobo. It was kind of hard to neatly run the drive power cables. There's a fan just beyond the power supply and that was not easy to work around. It does snap out pretty easily. A multi-card 3.5 inch reader fit perfectly (I'd read some horror stories about those being a problem). Hard drives screwed in very easily. The optical drives were no problem either.

I used an Asus P5Q Pro motherboard. All connectors were easy to use, with plenty of space. The stock Intel cooler for my Core 2 Quad Q9550 had plenty of room. A Zalman, Arctic, or Noctura cooler would fit very easily. My graphics card posed no problems whatsoever - a BFG 8800GT OC, single slot card. I can see that if the card were about two inches longer it would bump into the upper 5.25 inch bay a bit. I've stuffed this full of hard drives, a WD 10,000 RPM Raptor, two Seagate 500Gb Barracudas, and a 1Tb green WD. There's room to spare for maybe two more drives. Optical drives, two Samsung SATA burners, top and bottom of the top 5.25 cage. Install was super easy there. Hooking up the three case fans was pretty easy - the Molex connectors are all pass through, so you only need one of those connectors.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this case. It runs very quiet. I had most of this hardware in a Sony Vaio computer case and it was all loud (especially the graphics card). The optical drives all run at room temperature even after long periods of burning and ripping discs (they used to produce hot discs in the Sony). The filters work wonders, good airflow and still trap dust - very simple to remove and wipe off.

This case really fills the bill of stealth classic styling. Jason Cross would be proud - no blue LED fans. Even the blue power / hard drive activity light is covered by the front door. My final build weight, maybe 40 pounds.

5 out of 5 stars Very near perfect   December 1, 2008
This case has a lot going for it. From its very stylish exterior with a front door for a clean look. To the compartmentalized PSU and main motherboard bay. As well as the removable HDD and 3.5" partitions. Add to that the little features like the silicon mounts (just imagine a silicon washer to deaden sound caused by vibrations from the platter spinning on a HDD), the ability to run wires through the back of the motherboard tray and the fairly handy snap-closed hidden box for screws and other tiny parts. I also appreciate that the top exterior section is plastic (I have a tendency to set stuff on there and the plastic is far more durable than paint on metal).

There are drawbacks though. The case is heavy, no getting around that. But unless you're a frequent LAN goer you'll probably only ever have to move the case a few times. The case for whatever reason doesn't come with a fan mounted to the front to draw air in(I'm picking up my own).

But easily the biggest drawback of all is that the neat little way they have you mount 5.25" drives isn't compatible with every drive. My Samsung Super-WriteMaster SH-S223Q - Disk drive - DVDRW (R DL) / DVD-RAM - 22x/22x/12x - Serial ATA - internal - 5.25" - black - LightScribe that I bought has 4 holes on each side of the drive. 2 middle-front, 2 middle-back. I was able to mount the rails to the drive as intended, but it sticks out about 3/4 of an inch from flush when pushed in. I managed a way around this problem that's less than ideal, but it works.

This is easily the best case I've ever owned. It's certainly not perfect. But it's getting there.

5 out of 5 stars Terrific Case   November 30, 2008
This is a fantastic, roomy, well cooled case. I bought it specifically to fit an EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 and could not be happier with this product.

The case is constructed with high quality materials and very well engineered to route your cables beneath the motherboard tray.

Great job Antec!

5 out of 5 stars Yet another fine Antec case   September 23, 2008
This is my second Antec P182 and my fourth Antec case over the years.

Without doubt the case is very well thought out. The composite sides make for a very quiet case and the recess behind the motherboard allows for "external" of the cables, helping to keep obstruction of the air flow to a minimum. I was concerned about the 8-pin/4-pin cable lengths of power supplies being able to be routed behind the board and then entering in to power the motherboard, but it was not a problem with the Corsair 620HX and 520 HX power supplies with which I have worked. (Those power supplies are also wonderful because of their quiet operation and the use of modular cables allows for unobstructed air flow and having to fiddle around with fixing extra cables out of the way.)

The design of the case keeps the power supply in its own tunnel at the bottom of the case, pulling air over up to 4 hard drives with the use of a fan, through the tunnel, around the power supply, and then out of the case. The upper compartment is roomy (with one concern I will mention below) with a second internal drive cage (which is the air tunnel entrance for two more drives), a 4 bay external drive cage, and two exhaust fans. I find the fans very quiet: they are essentially silent. (I have an EVGA 9600 video card which is the loudest fan in the case. When I did not power up the card as an experiment, I could BARELY hear the fans. I suppose I could replace them with even quieter fans, but I have seen no need.)

There is not a large amount of air flow around the four external bays, but one is occupied by an optical drive, which is used rarelly, and two are filled with mobile racks, each of which has its own fan. I mentioned a concern above about this set of bays and this is it: check out the placement of the video card on your motherboard and see if it will conflict with any of the equipment which you plan to place in any of the external bays. My potential problem came with placement of an older external mobile rack, which is almost nine inches in depth. Would fit only in the top external bay, leaving about 3 mm of clearance with a capacitor on the mother board. This older mobile rack depth is because of connectors for an internal tray and for connectors for IDE-to-SATA internal connector. My newer mobile rack is only 7" in depth, so one can dance in the extra clearance space.

The case is heavy/"substantial", so don't plan on taking it around to LAN parties. I like its solid, quiet qualities.

My first case had a problem with one of the fans; it would not start up on a low setting but worked just fine on medium and high settings. I called Antec and a fan was dispatched right away.

My overall experience with this case is top-notch. I would (and did) buy it again!
