Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Review
The First Alert FAC200 Wired Multi-Purpose B/W Camera with Built-in Microphone is a simple, reliable, and highly economical solution for most basic remote monitoring needs. The easy-to install, compact First Alert FAC200 camera has IR (infrared) emitters that allow it to receive a picture under no-light conditions, and built-in audio reception, making it perfect for security surveillance or any other situation requiring 24-hour monitoring of an area such as a room, hallway, or production or retail space.

This camera utilizes a 0.33-inch black-and-white CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensor, with a 3.6-millimeter fixed wide-angle lens. The FAC200 has a sufficient resolution of 280 horizontal TVL (TV lines), and can receive a picture under no-light (0 Lux) conditions up to 10-feet away thanks to six IR LEDs (light emitting diodes). The First Alert FAC200 operates on the EIA (Electronics Industries Association) TV system, and includes a standard RCA composite audio/video output connection. This unit runs on 12-volt DC power, and has an operating temperature of eight- to 144-degrees Fahrenheit.

Technical Features:

  • Sensitivity: 0.0 Lux in B/W up to 10-feet
  • Lens: 3.6 mm fixed wide-angle
  • Horizontal resolution: 280 TVL
  • Operating temperatures: -8 and 144-degrees Fahrenheit
  • Dimensions: approximately 2 x 1.5 x 2.5 inches (W x D x H)
Designed primarily for indoor use, the First Alert FAC200 camera deserves serious consideration as an easy and economical home monitoring solution, and makes a great addition to any budget-conscious surveillance system. User's should note that the CCD sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

as you can see this product only produces a black and white picture. if you desire a detailed picture this is not your item and i would recommend the weather proof colour camera. however if u only desire this camera purely for security purposes the picture on this will have no problem identifying anyone. its reasonably priced and relyable. i would recommend this prduct to a buyer
